Duce Family - Breeder - 2009 Inductee

LaMar Duce

The Duce Family, also known as Southline Quarter Horses had their first show horse hit the snaffle bit futurity scene in 1986. Prior to that time the Duce Family horses were used for rodeo as all the boys roped and steer wrestled.

Locke Duce's father, LaMar Duce founder of Southline Quarter Horses, had a passion for raising horses that would help his family in all the events they chose to compete in. LaMar spent countless hours researching bloodlines, he loved knowing the pedigrees and accomplishments of all his favorite horses. He acquired a variety of brood mares and over the years has had a number of stallions. Both of which have changed according to the needs of the family. LaMar's goal was to produce the best quality horses that he could. Being careful not to get too attached to a horse that was not improving the herd.

Locke and Deb Duce

As the years have gone by the responsibility of managing Southline Quarter Horses has passed to Locke and Deb. They continue to seek out bloodlines to better the herd and are very pleased with the foals that are being shown. From the early years in the snaffle bit futurities, to a short time in cutting, the Duce horses have now settled primarily in the reining industry. Duce raised horses can be found in a wide range of reining classes from beginner to non pro to open, and the longevity of these horses is a testiment to the breeding and training.

Locke and Deb are very grateful to all the people who have purchased these horses and gone on competing with them to enable Duces to receive this honour. They would also like to thank the Canadian Supreme for creating such a super program that not only provides a great place to show and promote young horses - but ultimately creates a market and a demand for good nominated prospects. Being part of the Canadian Supreme subscribed stallion program and nominating all of their foals has been one of the best investments Duces have made.

Thank you again to all who have made this possible.
